Travelogue 4a

Heading back East…

my fried head!

It was time to head back. I had Randy, a Jedi Tow-Master, get my rig from his property to the road down to I-25. It was early AM, I was all packed up, I’d cleared a few obvious obstacles. Randy appeared right on time. Not sure how he did it. Maybe he heard me fooling around. I was awake, but I was also sort of raw-nerve exhausted. Basically, I’m a curmudgeon and this trip had been a massive social event. I was planning on stopping by Phil DeWalt’s on the way back in KC. He was doing a Mandolin Orchestra of Kansas City concert, and I was keen to be there. But I did not reserve any campsites; I wanted to take two days/nights to get to KC. I wanted to use some RVer software to find stops, either free of charge or cheap. I didn’t really care to take the exact same route back that I had taken on the way out. The software is called AllStays Camp & RV.

The first stop that fit my requirements was the Cimarron River National Grasslands Campground. It’s basically north of Route 27 near Elkhart, Kansas.

All set up at Cimarron River, taking a hike. My rig from a distance.

I didn’t bother to unhitch. I wasn’t planning on going anywhere. I was looking for efficiency. I went for a stroll or two and took some photos…
