atheist in a foxhole<\/div>\n
goes something like this:<\/div>\n
throwing off pre-conception<\/div>\n
comfort zone<\/div>\n
personal safety<\/div>\n
social standards, references<\/div>\n
mores<\/div>\n
and family values<\/div>\n
commercial potential<\/div>\n
and every shred of<\/div>\n
clothing and decency
tearing out his hair<\/div>\n
and all on a torturous diagonal<\/div>\n
from upstage right<\/div>\n
to downstage left<\/div>\n
he ends up on the apron<\/div>\n
on his knees<\/div>\n
with head between them<\/div>\n
under a single circle<\/div>\n
of light…<\/div>\n
and that is just the beginning.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
then comes the losses<\/div>\n
of dignity, equilibrium,<\/div>\n
homeostasis, solvency,<\/div>\n
and everything that means<\/div>\n
anything;<\/div>\n
loved ones<\/div>\n
old friends<\/div>\n
new hope
back home
old books<\/div>\n
last looks.<\/div>\n
there’s no music<\/div>\n
but there is sound,<\/div>\n
loud and distracting.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
but finally there is <\/div>\n
resignation<\/div>\n
not resolution<\/div>\n
he turns towards the wall<\/div>\n
the back wall<\/div>\n
legs extended towards the black legs<\/div>\n
but the shin bangers go dark<\/div>\n
leaving just the aura<\/div>\n
of peace and <\/div>\n
wisks of pity<\/div>\n
before the blackout.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
we’ve all been through it<\/div>\n
or will eventually have to<\/div>\n
but maybe not<\/div>\n
in so short a time.<\/p>\n
